Perhaps a r1 owner will be willing to help me with this issue.
I,m not particularly knowledgeable in the technical sense, i use the camera as a tool.
I,ll explain what we do first: we create paintings in different materials on paper or linen , the subjects: dogs ;all our work is commisioned, so we make what the customer wants.
Our customers want artwork which depicts "their" dog, not a dog of this particular breed,
so stance, expression, musculature, coat etc. have to be exact.
In order to achieve this the reference material used has to be as detailed as possible ;so, we make a number of photo's (raw),pick one out and print it scaled to de size the dog will be on the painting (70 - 120 cm. ).
I am currently using the canon g5 but need more mexapixels and the big ccd of the r1 so i get better detail while printing big.
question: been reading up on dof and cof issues, but am still not sure about the dof issue in this particular situation; in general the pictures are taken from a distance aprox. 2-5 meters, in morning or afternoon sunlight.
Could i expect to have the r1 behave more or less similarly to the g5 with regards to dof ?
I'm not sure what the focal length would be at these distances with the r1.....
shutterspeed is important; you cant tell the dog: "please hold that pose " !
Pfff, long stoy, i hope somebody can shed some light on this.
Bij voorbaat dank
