  • how long and firm is yours?

    Your monopod, that is...

Suggestions welcome, it's to swing a D2X on, so I'm looking for quite a stiff and stable one, 1.7m +, Fast opening, fast closing, nothing too fancy. No need for fancy heads or carbon, I carry enough junk about as it is so a few more kilos is a few more € saved at the gym.

    Thanks, Rob.

      Manfrotto 681B Monopod
      closed: 65.0 cm
      maximum height: 161.0 cm
      weight: 0.80 kg
      load capacity: 12.00 kg
      legs tube diameter: 35,4 , 29,5 , 25 mm

Main purpose is the mounting of your camera, but also works fine for scaring burglars and playing baseball

Pretty firm and stable. For the moment I don't use a head on it, fully extended and mounted with a D80 with grip, perfect heigth for me (as I'm 1m86). Cost me 52 euro.

Re: how long and firm is yours?

I bought this budget type Bilora at action shop, it can hold my D50 with sigma 180macro and SB-600 so yes, i'm happy with this one. It's not TOO heavy, altough, a carbon one should be lighter (but than again, i like a heavy wallet).

I think it costed me about 60€ so that's not to bad.

What you could do is buy that monopod and instal a nice head with it, should work like a charm (if the standard head is not good enough that is).

          I'm using a Manfrotto 681B Monopod also

          closed: 65.0 cm
          maximum height: 161.0 cm
          weight: 0.80 kg
          load capacity: 12.00 kg
          legs tube diameter: 35,4 , 29,5 , 25 mm

Not too heavy wit a simple head. And like mentioned, you can use it to scare burglars and other thieving scum who think they can get your gear easily.
Fully extended with a D200 and grip I have to stand on my toes to look through the camera, so it should be good for people between the 180-190 cm height.

            Thanks all.

Last night I picked up a Manfrotto from a BD buddy. It's the model with the built in antenna things on the bottom. They say self supporting monopod but that thing is pretty lethal with those 3 feet sticking out

Anyway, I put it to good use last night at a fashion show. Perfect.

Also tested the 682B SELF STANDING MONOPOD in the store before buying the 681B. Didn't thrust that self standing part of the 682B. Works perfectly without a camera, but wasn't that stable with one mounted...
