An important update from Nikonians.org
--------------------------------------
Dear Nikonians member,
A little after 7pm eastern time on Friday, October 21st, the Nikonians main server (Nikonians.org) experienced a major disk failure. Normally, we are protected from catastrophic failures such as this because all of our servers have a redundant (mirror) disk array design.
For still unexplained reasons, our ISP software apparently was not transmitting information properly to the back-up drives last week when the failure occurred. Therefore, some data has undoubtedly been lost. We find the events of last Friday very upsetting to all of us on the team, but we want you to know that we are working hard to repair the damage and we will return to normal service as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, please accept our heartfelt apologies for this occurrence and we want everyone to know that we will be taking extra steps in the future to make sure that this type of event does not happen again. We hoped to be back on line on the 24th of October, but the restoration process has been more difficult than originally thought.
Please let your Nikonians friends know that we will be back soon; probably in a few days. If you need to get in touch with us, you can do so by sending email to: membercontact@nikonians.org
We will be back soon, and stronger than before.
We appreciate your patience during this most difficult time. We miss you all.
Thank you,
Your Nikonians Team
