thanks for you comment Kombizz. In that region it's a custom that women who have lost a relative cut off a fingerbone as a token of mourning. As you can see, the woman in the picture hast lost already a lot of relatives during her life. I have seen many women lacking fingerparts. The authorities have forbidden it now but it still happens.

wie zijn wij om te oordelen over de waarden en culturen van anderen? Alsof wat wij doen de enige valabele norm is. In onze kanten is rouw taboe. Dat kan je net zogoed als barbarisme beschouwen.
