  • Canon 85mm 1.8 - bad copy?

    Hello,
I am sorry that I have to write in english, this being a NL speaking forum, but I still have to learn a lot before I can write in Nederlands.
I have bought the lens from camera.nl in Holland, but I live in Antwerpen. I've tried the lens there on a written paper sheet and the focus was fine. When I got home I've taken some photos and I have seen that the lens mostly front-focused. I have done a Lens Focus Chart test with the camera on a tripod, 45 degrees angle and focused on Focus Here. The focus is terrible! I tried to manual focus and it's better, but not great.
Do I need to go back to the shop in Holland or I have to get the lens to a Canon authorized Repair Shop? Does anybody have an idea? And if yes, where do I find this shop?
    Thank you!

You could try and send the shop an email with your problem. That's what I would do...

yes, send them a mail adding a picture of the misfocus, say you want another lens.

What camera are you using? Because if it is a recent EOS model, it might have "microadjustment" on board. Both my wife's 50D and my 7D have this feature.

I'm having a Canon 20D and it doesn't have MA. I thought of testing the lens on another camera to see how it behaves, but I don't know anyone with a Canon DSLR. I was thinking about going to a shop here, but I don't know if they will let me test a camera. I guess I'll give it a try tomorrow, just to be sure.
I don't have any fast lenses, I own a 10-22 f3.4-4.5 and 70-200 f4L. With these, the focus is just fine. I want to be 100% sure that it's not the camera though.
I tried to approach someone with a 5D on the street today, I explained the situation but he run away (I wanted to test the lens on his camera). I scared him, I suppose???
