    Canon 85L

    De 85L staat bekend om zijn trage focus om scherp te stellen.
    Het schijnt op een 5D3 en 1DX sneller te focussen.
    Hoe kan dit nu?
    Een trage focus kan toch niet sneller werken omdat de camera sneller is?
    Of zie ik dit verkeerd?

    Ik heb een 5D2 en het weerhoud me om deze lens te kopen vanwege de prijs en langzame focus.

        Bij sportfotografen dus.
        Maar Canon zegt zelf dat het hun definitieve portretlens is.
        Nu, wat is traag voor een portretfotograaf en wat is traag voor een sportfotograaf ?
        Maar de camera maakt wel degelijk een verschil in de snelheid.
        Ik heb gelezen dat u zelf ook de 1DMIII voorbehoudt voor sneller werk en de 5DII eerder voor portret, dus ...

          De 85L is een prachtlens maar de focus is inderdaad te traag voor alles wat sneller dan traag beweegt (toch als je iets in de buurt van de F1.2 gebruikt).
          En dit is op basis van ervaring in combinatie met mijn 5D mark III. Maar voor alles wat stil staat en voordeel heeft bij een heel beperkte DOF vind ik dit dé lens.

            dus zelfs op de 5dm3 wordt de focus niet sneller!?

              Ik kan niet vergelijken tussen een 5Dm2 en een 5Dm3 maar het is zeker niet snel. Dat is ook niet verwonderlijk: er moet heel wat zwaar glas rondgedraaid worden. Maar het is en blijft een prachtlens.

                    Ik heb ooit eens gehoord, geen idee of het waar is, dat op de 1D bodies, de lens een hoger voltage krijgt dan op andere bodies, waardoor de AF sneller is.
                    Op de 1Dx werken bepaalde recente lenzen sneller (ik denk dat het vooral de nieuwe grote tele's zijn met een "II" in de benaming), maar of ze gewoon de spanning naar de motortjes verhogen, dat weet ik niet.
                    Die lenzen moeten dan ook compatibel zijn met die functie, de oudere lenzen zullen er dus niet sneller van worden (de 85mm f1,2 is veel eerder uitgekomen).

                    Het is wel zo dat de snelheid van de AF-processor in de camera voor een heel groot deel mee bepalend is voor de AF snelheid van de lenzen die je er op gebruikt.
                    Daardoor zal de AF van bijvoorbeeld de 85mm f1,2 wel sneller werken op een 5D MKIII dan op een 5D MKII (ik heb geen ervaring met de 85mm f1,2 , maar met andere lenzen merk ik toch duidelijk het verschil in AF-snelheid tussen de 5D MKII en III).

                    Volgens sommige tests zou de AF van de 5D MKIII en de 1Dx ook accurater zijn dan bij de vorige camera's, en dat is ook zeker een pluspunt als je met heel grote diafragma-openingen werkt.
                    Maar om de camera dan helemaal juist op het gewenste punt scherp te laten stellen is het wel belangrijk dat de AF-correctie van die lens ook gecontroleerd is voor die specifieke camerabody.
                    Elke lens en camerabody heeft een tolerantie (= afwijking), en zeker bij een f1,2 lens zal dat eerder voor scherpstelfouten zorgen dan bij een f4 of f5,6 lens.

                      Ik heb een 85 f1,2 L II en heb deze vroeger gebruikt op een 7D en een 5D II, die lens was op die toestellen voor z'n doeleinden meer dan snel genoeg
                      Nu staat ze soms eens op de 1DIV en de 1Dx, en ze mogen zeggen wat ze willen maar ze is inderdaad sneller op de 1D body's !
                      Zorg er wel voor als je er eentje aanschaft dat het een type II is en niet het eerste type, want die was inderdaad aan de trage kant.

                        Ik denk dat snelheid te verhalen valt in 2 aparte gevallen:: Enerzijds het deel waar ook de body invloed op heeft en dat is de juiste focus vinden. Anderzijds de effectieve snelheid van de motor om al het glas te gaan in beweging brengen. Ik vind het ook moeilijk te geloven dat er een hoger voltage zou gaan naar de motoren via de 1D reeksen, als dat zo was zouden ze hier marketinggewijs wel gebruik van gemaakt hebben om meer 1D's te verkopen ipv 5D's.
