Service Notices for 18-200 AF-S DX VR

For our members who own the new 18-200 VR DX, there are two service advisories currently circulating regarding it's compatibility.
Fujifilm has issued a technical notice indicating a partial incompatibility with the AF system on the S2 and S3 Pro models at close-focus distances while using the 18-200. Specifically, with the lens set at wide focal length and focus point set to infinity, the camera may fail to focus at close-up subjects. A fix is required for all users of the aforementioned cameras who intend to use this Nikkor lens model. There is no charge for the upgrade as long as ownership of the 18-200 lens can be provided.
Nikon has issued it's own notice which has similar symptoms, but the incident could occur with the D70, D2H and D100. The good news is that D70 owners running Firmware 2.00 need not worry. D2H owners will have to wait for a firmware fix due in late March/early April of 2006, and D100 owners will have to send in the camera for updates.

Wij maken u attent op een probleem dat kan ontstaan wanneer de Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED gebruikt wordt op de Nikon D100, D2H of D70 digitale camera. Wanneer de lens op de groothoekstand staat kan het in sommige gevallen voorkomen dat de camera niet juist kan scherpstellen op onderwerpen dicht bij de camera, als de uitgangspositie van de scherpstelling op dat moment de oneindig-stand is.

De oorzaak van dit probleem is een compatibiliteitsprobleem in de aansturing van de autofocus bij korte onderwerpsafstanden bij gebruik van de Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED op een D100, D2H of D70.
Het probleem treedt alleen op bij D70 camera’s met een firmware ouder dan 2.00. Het probleem treedt NIET op bij firmware 2.00.

Bij Nikon camera’s anders dan de bovengenoemde treedt dit probleem NIET op.

Indien dit probleem bij u optreedt, kan dit door middel van een firmware upgrade verholpen worden zoals hieronder wordt beschreven. Dit probleem kan niet worden verholpen door de lens af te stellen.

D70 – Controleer de firmware versie van uw camera (klik hier voor meer informatie [hyperlink]). Indien de firmware versie ouder is dan 2.00, download dan de laatste firmware van deze website. U kunt ook de firmware van uw camera laten updaten bij Nikon Service

D2H – Er zal een firmware update voor de D2H beschikbaar komen op deze website, naar verwachting zal dit eind maart / begin april plaatsvinden. Klik op de knop “Stuur mij een e-mail als dit antwoord is bijgewerkt”, u wordt dan automatisch via deze website hiervan op de hoogte gesteld. Als u dit probleem direct opgelost wilt hebben kunt u contact opnemen met Nikon Service

D100 – U kunt uw camera opsturen of inleveren bij Nikon Service.
