video cam for 'youtube generation'

I've got a 9 year old budding Spielberg here..

So I'm looking for a very cheap video camera for him to cut his teeth on.
I have some old Sony camcorder but capturing the video from that is a serious effort, plus the capture card I have doesn't work on XP..

I've just seen an Aiptek in the makro folder for €99 so I guess there are other options out there too.

So, a small digital video camera, ability to record to SD card or other solid state media. Resolution isn't important. Any ideas?

I would rather sugest you to look on ebay. Camcorders with memorycards are rather expensif, the cards too. In tests, good recorders costs about 700 euro.
I would look for mini-dv: easy editing on pc, easy to find 2th hand, cheap(er), re-usable cassettes a.s.o. Succes!

Look in the last Carrefour Folder ... a Samsung mini dv cam for 149 euros ...

That Aiptek cam is really slick for that price:

- Big 2.5 swivel screen
- Divx-compression, vga 30fr/s (gives you about 45min on 1gb-card)
- Tripod, headphones included...
- MP3-player
- Ulead Video Studio, Cyberlink PowerDirector PRO included

Etc...
