exceed the newest 50mm f/1.4 lenses from Nikon and Canon.
In addition to costing ten times as much as a Nikon or Canon, this lens

gets its performance advantage from the layout of the rangefinder M
cameras, which gives lens designers the freedom to place the rear
elements much closer to the image plane than with SLR lenses.
