OK, so I ask different. Does anybody know from the practice the HP Photosmart 850? And, if this firm makes good cameras?

Most people say it's better to stick with a firm that has years of experience with analogue photography

i have a photosmart 850 and i am very pleased with it, the quality op the pictures is almost at the level of the canon g3 an d the big optical zoom is a major point. It is just a little bit difficult sometimes to hold the camera steady because it is pretty heavy, you find a very big review off the camera at http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm and at http://www.dpreview.com/ .
The lens is one of fuji.

Tony is right, you'd better stick to a camera brand, and you'll see that they have models that they are priced very competitive towards the mentioned camera, and that they deliver better quality and features too.

of course, every camera is 'almost at the level of the g3' , but there's nothing like the real thing, right ?

For me it's easier to hold the camera steady when it's heavier
